Dora Maxwell - A Life of Purpose

You may have wondered, “Why Dora?” when looking into our mission and brand. But a better question would be, why NOT Dora?

Our namesake is based on Dora Maxwell, a credit union pioneer from the early 19th century.

Born in the late 1800s, Dora Maxwell was a financial force to be reckoned with. Even though she worked in an intimidating industry, she traveled and secured charters for hundreds of credit unions throughout the United States.

Dora was one of the original signers of CUNA's constitution at Estes Park, Colorado. She worked as an organizer for the movement's trade association and held numerous volunteer positions at the local and national levels. Dora also developed volunteer clubs and worked with organizations on behalf of the underprivileged.

Dora Maxwell believed in fair access to financial services for EVERYONE, as do we.

After researching Dora Maxwell and her commitment to such inspiring work, we immediately knew that “Dora” was the perfect name for our brand, Dora Financial.
